Why Videos go Viral

The concept is simple: a little girl from an average home, leading an average life, enjoying everyday things just like everyone else. Right?

Not so, what if she were an average little girl in Syria, leading an average life just like other girls her age in Syria; what would life be like then?

The ad illicits a very strong emotional response from viewers as it involves children; an average child, any child, it could be your child or mine.

The story is very simple and clear. An average little girl with her average family, enjoying all the things every little girl would enjoy unless you live in a war-torn country like Syria. Then the viewer watches in dismay as the little girl's world crumbles before our eyes. We must help - after all, it might be us!

Viral Ad: Apple "Misunderstood" Christmas 2013

Posted by: Shannon Nicolson

The concept is simple - a family is gathering for the holidays and enjoying various activities while the stereotypical teenager has his face buried in his iPhone.

Then the ad hits you with the unexpected: the teen was actually gathering footage for a touching family video. Cue the waterworks.

The ad received extra media attention in Alberta because it was shot here in Edmonton and showcased the beauty of our winter city...even if it is cold!

It was a great way to spread holiday spirit and show the "real life" use of the iPhone 5S video while playing off pop culture attitudes - and misunderstandings - regarding teens and their devices.

The ad also won a Creative Arts Emmy Award.
