Blog with a Passion

http://www.wordle.net/show/wrdl/8384615/Blogging_Business

The article "Your blog can attract millions of followers" listed a few individuals who demonstrated success with blogging. It is interesting that these people blog about something that is total different from their starting career; they blog about their interest and then slowly snowball into become a major part of their lives. Simply put, being passionate about the things one blog about is important, follow by being consistent (even if it is a slow start), and finally be engaging and approachable online. This seemingly is the formula to a become a successful blogger, especially if one want to make a living out of it.

Module 6 - Assignment

Wordle: Your blog can attract millions #EXSM5513

Module 6 - Wordle #EXSM5513

By Crystal Armstrong

I the article What is Affiliate Marketing by Darren Rowse, the concept of advertising on a personal/business blog is explored. Rowse brings great points to light in terms of diffusing the 'Get rich quick' thoughts in relation to partnering with brand/companies while giving some sound terms for thought when managing quality, reputation, desirable skill sets and track-ability as relating to Affiliate Marketing

This article resonated with me as I have clients who are interested in this opportunity and it was a good introduction as to what to consider prior to engaging.

Author: Domain Names
By Phillip D.
The article examined SEO and how it has evolved from Webmasters to Algorithms to determine ranking when searched.  The Wordle above depicts the key words and main ideas of the blog posts.  It does not represent the "Black Hat" aspect of SEO manipulation discussed in the article.

Module 6 assignment: Search engine optimization: black hat vs. white hat tag cloud

Wordle: SEO

My tag cloud includes words such as websites, optimization, search, engine, results and
algorithm, which capture the essence of the article that is about seach engine optimization. I was expecting the words “manipulation” and “relationship” to also be included, as the article describes how before Google, webmasters would manipulate the search results by including popular keywords that may have not had much to do with the website. Google changed this by looking at the relationships between websites instead and now the search results are
more relevant.

Module 6 Assignment - Wordle

Wordle: Module 6 EXSM 5331 Assignment
For this assignment I created a tag cloud the the article, Surviving the Dark Side of Affiliate Marketing. The keywords that Wordle highlighted align very closely with my interpretation of the article. I did think that revenue concepts (e.g. pay per click, commission, etc.) would be larger in the tag cloud; however, as I reflect, the article was about how businesses can use affiliate marketing to increase/drive sales and the term revenue was an implied concept. As well, the keyword 'Mr' was pretty large and unexpected--I didn't realize that it was used that much in the article!

Module 6 activity: What is Affiliate Marketing?

What_is_Affiliate_Marketing

The keywords highlighted by my wordle tag cloud for the Module 6 reading, "What is Affiliate Marketing," Pro Blogger, by Darren Rouse, are:
  • Affiliate
  • Marketing
  • Products
  • Readers
  • Blogs
  • Promote
  • Publisher
I agree that the words "affiliate" and "marketing" should be the top two words highlighted by the tag cloud, as they do indeed reflect the main content of the article that investigates "What is Affiliate Marketing?" For me the differences between the tag cloud and how I interpreted the article, is that I would have thought that the word "money" would have appeared as a much larger word in the tag cloud, as money is a very important elements to successful affiliate marketing. As the author says "affiliate marketing is a way of making money online whereby you as a publisher are rewarded for helping a business by promoting their product, service or site." The insights that I gained from the article and the tag cloud, is that using affiliate marketing on your blog is not a quick and easy way to make money, it takes a lot of hard work, time, research and building of trust with your readers. According to the article, to be a success at affiliate marketing and drive profit and conversions for a small business, you have to rely on fostering relationships, focusing on your niche, focusing on a few key affiliates, and creating a system that generates performance for both the advertiser and the affiliate.
